The word
"Hygiene" comes from Hygieia, who was the the Greek goddess of health,
cleanliness, and . . . the moon. (Ancient Greek gods apparently worked double
shifts.)
According
to Websters Dictionary the definition of hygiene is: 1 : a science of the establishment
and maintenance of health 2 : conditions or practices (as of cleanliness)
conducive to health
For
many of hygiene is something that we do in order to maintain a clean, healthy
and germ free body, but there are still many who could benefit from a little education.
More than half of the illnesses and dealths in young children are caused by germs
that enter their bodies from food, water or most commonly dirty hands.
Not
only is hygiene important to prevent the spread of germs, but it also helps your
self confidence. Who want to be around someone who smells and is dirty? We all
know the importance of washing our hands, but how many people actually do it?
Do you ever go into the bathroom and watch as many people leave the stall and
go right out the door failing to wash their hands. I am sure everyone has encountered
that. Public washrooms are hightly infested with germs so take that extra minute
to protect yourself and others. For every person that does that though harmful
bacteria can spread and put the rest of us at higher risk of infection.
Ever
think about the ice in the pop you order at the fast food joint? A grade 7 from
Florida won her science fair for proving that there was more bacteria in the ice
container than in toilet water. Now maybe you might think of a healthier alternative?
Your dogs and cats drinking from the toilet may seem smarter than you think.
To
maintain ultimate hygiene shower twice a day, wash you hands often, especially
before eating, brush your teeth, comb your hair, wear deoderant or anti-perspirant
and not only will you be a pleasure to be around for others, but most importantly
for your health and happiness!
