Everyone wants to do something meaningful and worthwhile, but there are few that will have the power of concentration to put forward the effort to go ahead and do it. If we cannot direct our thoughts, wishes, studies and actions, we cannot possibly achieve our goals. If we are impulsive, worried and irritated, we are weakening our power of concentration.
Concentration means success, because we are better
able to govern our thoughts, desires, emotions and
actions. Only the trained person can develop skills
and faculties in a concentrated manner. Like a muscle,
our mental concentration becomes stronger and efficient
with daily exercise, and this almost invariably
improves our chances for success.
Here are 5 practical ways to develop the power
of concentration:
Mindful Reading Exercise: Before reading a book, breathe slowly, filling the lungs comfortably full of fresh air; hold this as long as you can without straining yourself; then exhale slowly. Now think how quiet and relaxed you are. Just think of yourself as getting ready to receive knowledge and ideas far greater than you have ever received before. Now close your eyes for ten seconds and let your mind assist you to accomplish what you wish. Don't let any doubts or fears enter. Just feel that what you wish is going to manifest. Read a book for twenty minutes and then write down a few bullet points that summarize what you've read and make it personal if you can. The chances are that at first you will not remember very many details, but with a little practice you will be able to write a very good account of what you have read.
